Blocking automatic subscriptions

What does one do in his/her setting to block being ‘subscribed’ to a thread?
I never want to be subscribed to any thread. Surely there must be a way to block automatic subscriptions.
If there is not then there must be.

At the top of the page, "Forum Actions" --> "General Settings" --> "Default Thread Subscription Mode" --> "Do Not Subscribe"
