Hi there.

I understand this is a ridiculously basic question, and I hate myself for not having the maths skills to be able to know it off hand, so that aside, I came here to confirm my answer.

If it takes an hour to do polish an apple, how many hours would it take to polish 10,000 apples?

Is the answer to this 10,000 / 10 = 1000?

Where is the division by ten coming from? What was your reasoning?

So, time it takes to polish 1 apple = 1 hour. It must take 10,000 hours to polish 10,000 apples.

Doesn't it take 10,000 hours?

Oh, come on! \(\displaystyle {10^n} = 1\underbrace {000 \cdots 00}_n\) ;a one with n zeros.

\(\displaystyle \dfrac{10,000}{10}=\dfrac{10^4}{10^1}=10^3=1000\)

Hello! I think because it takes 1 hour to polish 1 apple, so it would take 10000 hours to polish 10000 apples.
