ax^2 - 2(ax)(2by) + (2by)^2 = a^2x^2 - 4axby + 4b^2y^2 Why?!

Hello! I have been reading Schaum's algebra for fun and can't figure out why:

(ax)^2 - 2(ax)(2by) + (2by)^2 = a^2x^2 - 4axby + 4b^2y^2

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Is the problem:

(ax)^2 - 2(ax)(2by) + (2by)^2 = a^2x^2 - 4axby + 4b^2y^2

If it is then you are missing the first pair of parentheses () → then correct your post.

As Kahn pointed out you are missing brackets. Can we see your work so we know where you are making any errors. That is the best way to obtain help.
 
Yes, I forgot to put in the brackets, it is (ax)^2 - 2(ax)(2by) + (2by)^2 = a^2x^2 - 4axby + 4b^2y^2

You are correct, I was missing brackets, I have corrected it to say: (ax)^2 - 2(ax)(2by) + (2by)^2 = a^2x^2 - 4axby + 4b^2y^2
