I don't understand part a for the third and eighth second. When finding rate of change do we take the average from 0-8 and 0-3? The answers use a difference of 1 so for the third second they're using a+h = 3 and a =2. Why does a = 2? Is it because of a 1 second difference....
"During the _____ second" often means ending at the specified time. Under this interpretation, the "first second" would begin at t = 0, and would end at t = 1. Likewise, the "third second" would begin at t = 2, and end at t = 3.
