This is a famous problem that i need help with

As I was going to St Ives I met a man with 7 wives, every wife had seven sacks,
every sack had seven cats, every cat had seven kits, kits, cats, sacks and wives,
how many were coming from St Ives?

Is this a geometric or arithmetic progression question?

Are you sure it's "from" Saint Ives? Because that's not how the "famous problem" goes.
