Need some help with an areas qn?
A high jump with a semi circular run 20m & landing mat 6m X 4m.
Long jump with 40m long run that's 1.5m wide, a 1m gap then a 10m X 3m sand pit.A triple jump with 30m long run & 13m take off area that's both 1.5m wide & a 8m X 3m sand pit.

A pole vault with 45m runway that's 1.5m wide before a 1m launch platform and 5m X 5m landing mat.

All events are 1m apart.

Qn: what's the minimum area for the rectangle of land needed to build the new facilities in meter square?

Qn: if the depth of sand pits for long & triple jump is 40cm, how much sand will be needed for both pits in cubic metres?

A total space of 40mx60m has been allocated that includes space for spectators. How many square metres will be available in square metres?

Have you sketched a picture, or was one given to you? Show it to us. Also, it doesn't sound like you've quoted the entire problem word for word; please do so, because bits you have left out may matter more than you realize.

Hi Kerrieyarwood. What have you thought about, in this exercise? Have you started anything, yet? For example, in the second question, have you converted 40 centimeters to meters?

Also, you wrote, "semi circular run 20m". Does that mean the diameter is 20 meters?

You wrote, "How many square metres will be available…". Available for what, exactly?

Have you drawn any pictures to share?

I would begin by sketching the equipment layout for each of the four events. Each of those layouts will fit in a rectangle whose dimensions you can determine. Once I know the size of those four "blocks", I would start thinking about efficient positioning, to meet the given conditions. Two of the rectangles seem to be longest; perhaps, the two remaining event blocks need to be sandwiched between the long ones.
