Are these problems a challenge to others as they are for me?

ok , f(x)=x^2-2,then f(a+2)=?

Do I replace X with (a+2)?

f(a+2)=(a+2)^2-2=
I tried this but it just would not go togather.

I tried but I could not get it to work with the answer they gave me in my study guide.

answer is a^2+4a+2
how do I actually work it?
I tried subtracting (a+2) to both sides , I tried dividing (a+2) with (a+2)^2-2
please help me I need it bad. Sorry to say I do not know how to do any of this.
I am a mom of four trying to get into school.

That is right.

(a+2)^2 = a^2 +4a + 4

Subtract 2 and you are done.

f(a+2) = (a+2)^2 - 2 = a^2 +4a + 4 - 2 = a^2 +4a + 2

Are they challenging to others? Absolutely. Don't worry about that. You learn more when you struggle.

wow. I have been trying to figure it out by doing functions,inverse or odd functions.wow i really made it harder than what it was. all i needed to do was seperate the (a^2+2) into (a+2)(a+2) and foil these two parenthieses not
(a+2)^2=a^2+4.

i honestly feel stupid . thank you so much for the help i have been setting here for days trying to figure it out.
since you have helped me so much could you figure this one out?

someone already explained it but they are smarter than me in this problem and I do not understand their explaination at all.
i tried going online to find a explaination for dummys but had no luck.
even if you could tell me here to look for an explaination thats easy to follow.

One of your problem could be that your fingers are running faster than your thoughts...
