Determine whether the graphs of the given pair of lines are parallell or perpendiclar.

4y+2=3
-3x+4y=-12

I came up with 4y + 2 = 3x -3x+4(3/4x-1/2) no solution
4y=3x-2 -3x + 3x-2=-12
4 4 4 + 2 + 2
y=3/4x-1/2 2 = 12

I came up with:

Code:
solving for y:

  4y + 2 = 3x

  4y = 3x - 2
  --   --   -
  4    4    4

  y = (3/4)x - 1/2

plugging in for y:

  -3x + 4y = -12

  -3x + 4((3/4)x - 1/2) = -12

  -3x + 3x - 2 = -12
           + 2   + 2
  ------------------
             0 = -10
So the answer is "no solution".
Convert the equations to the form:

y = mx + b

Then compare the slopes (m's).

You don't include any instructions within your post. Your subject line indicates that you are supposed to be comparing slopes, but your method and your answer ("no solution") indicate that you are actually supposed to be trying to solve the system of equations...? :oops:

Please reply with clarification. Thank you! :D
