I need help with the two questions below. Someone pls help. Thanks in advance. I am really back in putting together word/mixed problems.

Question #1: Find the cost per ounce of a mixture of 30 oz of an alloy that cost $4.50 per ounce, 40 oz of alloy that costs $3.50 per ounce, and 30 oz of an alloy that coat 43.00 per ounce.

Question #2: Michael leaves a dock in his motorboat and travels at an average speed of 9 mph toward the Isle of Shoals, a small island off the coast of Massachusetts. Two hours later; a tour boat leaves the same dock and travels at an average speed of 18 mph toward the same island. How many hours after the tour boat leaves will Michael's boat be along side the tour boat?

Please show us your work and exactly where you are stuck. That way we would know where to begin to help you.

I don't know how or where to start with solving the two problems.

Can someone please help?

It's unfortunate that you missed the week when these were covered, and that the book and a friend's class notes aren't proving helpful.

Since we cannot replace the hours of classroom instruction that you missed, please consider studying some of the many great lessons available online!

. . . . .Google results for "mixture word problem"

. . . . .Google results for "distance word problem"

Once you have studied some lessons (at least two from each link!), please attempt the exercises. If you get stuck, please reply showing how far you've gotten.

Thank you! :D

it's interesting that the total oz in the mixture is 100. This makes it easy to treat them like percents.

I could do the problem but I don't know how much more help is allowed without actually doing the problem.

Of course, they'll be along side one another when their distances are equal. Since d=rt, Mike's distance is 9t.

The tour boat's distance is 18(t-2), since it left 2 hours later.

Set them equal and solve for t.
