application of topology

well, this is not a math question but i guess this is the appropriate place to post it.

Abstract algebra has many applications, two of which are:
1) Impossibility of trisection of 60 degree angle with straight edge and compass.
2) Insolvability of a general quintic by radicals.

What are the applications of topology??
I am studying topology these days but I the book has so far given ni hints what are the applications. So far i've been just playing with the definitions. Can someone please tell me any Amazing facts which can be proven and understood at UG level using topology??

I did a quick Google search for "applications of topology" and turned up an astonishing 21,000,000+ hits. I suggest that you try the same sort of thing, using your favorite search engine, then do some reading...find those amazing facts for yourself!
