Jana took her 3 year old niece out for breakfast. The restaurant they went to was having a special where children under 4 received half off of their meal with the purchase of a regular priced meal. Drinks were not included in the special. If Jana's meal was $10, her niece's was $6 before the discount, they each had a $1.25 drink, tax was calculated at 8.25%, and Jana tipped the waitress 15% of the total including tax, what did Jana spend in all????

Hello.

What have you tried or thought about thus far? Where exactly are you stuck? (It's difficult to tutor people who don't say anything about their situation.)

If you have not been able to do anything, then here is a first thought:

The kid chose a $6 meal, but Aunt only has to pay half of that because the kid is under 4 years old. Make sense, so far? Can you figure out half of $6? I think that you can.

What could a next step be toward determining the total?
