Since your current course expects that you know this material, and since you seem not to have encountered it before, it would appear that you were mistakenly placed in the wrong class. Unfortunately, it is not reasonably feasible to attempt here to provide you with the missing semester(s) of course material. Sorry!

Please conference with your academic advisor as soon as possible, so that this error can be fixed as quickly as possible. Otherwise, your best bet is almost certainly to hire a qualified local tutor and set aside an hour or two a day for concentrated face-to-face personal instruction.

Good luck! :D

It means that you have provided only a portion of the given information for this exercise.

So, I must guess.

My guess is that you have been given the definition for a function named f (some expression in terms of this function's independent variable x), and that the instruction "evaluate" requires you to write the definition of the composite function f(x + 1) by replacing each instance of x in the definition of f with the expression x + 1, followed by simplifying the result.

If you need more help with this exercise, then please provide all of the information, and show any work that you've been able to accomplish.

Also, if you have not already read the post titled, "Read Before Posting", then please read it.

Cheers,

~ Mark :)
