Totaly lost on this one.

A Candy Barrel shop manager mixes M&M's worth $2.00 per pound with trail mix woth $1.50 per pound. Find how many pounds of each she she should use to get 5o pounds of a party mix worth $1.80 per pound.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

those links were a great help but i am having a bit of trouble solving the equation. So far I have

2x + 1.50y = 50x + 50y

I was thinking of using substitution but then the 2 variables would cancel each other out wouldnt they?

What do "x" and "y" stand for, and how did you arrive at this equation?

Please reply showing your steps.

Thank you.

This "write it down" way may help you:
Code:
   x @ 2.00
50-x @ 1.50
===========
  50 @ 1.80
