f(x) = (4x^8 - √x) / (8x^4)

Ive tried to run the quotient rule with no luck, then I set the problem up:

f(x) = (4x^8 - √x) * (8x^4)^-1

and tried to use the product rule but i'm still having trouble finding the correct answer.

Whats the best way to approach this problem?

Why not just do the division:

. . . . .f(x) = (1/2)x4 - (1/8)x-7/2

...and then use the power rule?

Wow... thats I good idea.

I cant believe I missed that.

Thanks Eliz

Sometimes it's the obvious things that trip us up!

Glad I could help! :D
