\(\displaystyle (x + \Delta x)^{3}\) becomes \(\displaystyle x^{3} + 3x^{2} \Delta x + 3x (\Delta x)^{2} + (\Delta x)^{3}\) :confused: Hint

\(\displaystyle (a+b)^3=a^3+3 a^2 b+3 a b^2+b^3\)

In your case, \(\displaystyle a=x \) and \(\displaystyle b=Δx\)

Using (a + b)^{3} = a^{3} + 3a^{2}b + 3ab^{2} + b^{3}

\(\displaystyle (x + \Delta x)^{3}\)

\(\displaystyle x^{3} + 3 x^{2} \Delta x + 3x (\Delta x)^{2} + (\Delta x)^{3}\)

\(\displaystyle x^{3} + 3x^{2} \Delta x + 3x (\Delta x)^{2} + (\Delta x)^{3}\)

I think a good idea with this binomial stuff is to memorize it. Because it comes up a lot in Calculus.
