Hi, I am having trouble finding the equation for this problem.

The supplement of an angle is 45 degrees less than twice the supplement of the complement of the angle. Find the measure of the complement.

Hello Walrus. We'd still like to see what you tried. Your expressions might indicate something of what you've already learned and maybe where you're stuck. (Please check out the Read Before Posting notice.)

The supplement of an angle is 45 degrees less than twice the supplement of the complement of the angle.
I'll guess that you already know how to express the complementary and supplementary angles of xº. Can you write an equation for the following, for example?

The supplement of xº is 45º less than twice Aº

(180-x) = 2a-45
Thanks. That's good.

Next, we want to replace Aº with "the supplement of the complement of xº". Experimenting with some actual angles helps to see the relationships. For example:

The supplement of the complement of 20º

180º - (90º - 20º)

?

… but it said supplement of the complement not twice "a".
Yes, I understand that. You didn't show your thoughts, so I didn't know where you were stuck. I didn't want to deal with "the supplement of the complement" until after I found out whether you could write the equation in terms of some arbitrary angle Aº.

Can you finish now?

I understand and can finish with this equation, but for my own I want to understand where you got the 20 in "the supplement of the complement of 20º"
and in 180º - (90º - 20º)

Sorry if im being a bit annoying

… where you got the 20 in "the supplement of the complement of 20º" …
Hi. That's an example. I said, "Experimenting with some actual angles helps…", so I picked an arbitrary angle to show an example. (I've amended my posts to help make it clear that the colored parts are examples. Thanks.)

When you finish the exercise, you can check your solution for xº by using it to calculate each piece of info and then checking those results against the given statements.
