My problem is this:

x/x^2+9

+

1/2x+6

I got 3(x+1)/2(x+3)(x-3)
it doesn't seem right, somehow. Could somebody help me out?

I'm thinkin' you meant ...

x/(x^2 + 9) + 1/(2x + 6)

common denominator is (x^2 + 9)(2x + 6) ... note that (x^2 + 9) does not factor over the real numbers.

[x(2x+6) + 1(x^2 + 9)]/[(x^2 + 9)(2x + 6)] =

(3x^2 + 6x + 9)/[(x^2 + 9)(2x + 6)] =

3(x^2 + 2x + 3)/[2(x^2 + 9)(x + 3)]

that's about as far as you can go with it.
