You have a garden that is 10 feet by 20 feet. You want to extend each side equally until the garden is 416 square feet in area. How long did each side get extended?

Is this proper way to solve this?
(L + 10) x (L + 20) = 416

2
L + 20L + 10L = 416

2
L + 30L = 216
How do you solve this?

katnic,

this is an unclear question.

It could mean extending by the same number of feet, or it could
mean extending each side by the same percentage of the length
of the original side lengths.
