Ok...I'm confused on this problem and was wondering if any one can help.

7y - 4/y + 15/y+1
_______________
-2/y + 4y - 6/(y+1)^2

I got
7y^3 + 18y^2 + 27y + 16
_______________________
4y^3 - 6y^2 - y - 7
but i don't know if its right

please help if you can.

Have you tried synthetic division? Also, reduce your denominator more.

Hello, lexe!

Could you restate the problem and use more parentheses?
Especially to indicate whatis in in the numerator and what is in in the denominator.

7y - 4/y + 15/y+1
_______________
-2/y + 4y - 6/(y+1)^2
I would guessed that you meant: \(\displaystyle \L\:\frac{\frac{7y\,-\,4}{y}\,+\,\frac{15}{y\,+\,1}}{-\frac{2}{y}\,+\,\frac{4y\,-\,6}{(y\,+\,1)^2}\)

But then you wrote:
I got
7y^3 + 18y^2 + 27y + 16
_______________________
4y^3 - 6y^2 - y - 7
And I have no idea how you got that . . .

[Synthetic division? . . . That works on polynomials.]

Heh, it looked like a polynomial since it wasn't very clean cut. Give me a break, I'm new here.
