I've got a huge test coming up and I'm horrible at math :( if anyone can please help me I would appreciate it so much. I have 13 problems left that I need help with off my exam review sheet. I've been working on this for hours! Please don't think I'm cheating this 100 question review and I'm SO confused on these. I'm not just going to take the answers. and I'm going to study and figure it out on my own I just need some help, please!

EVEN IF YOU ONLY HELP WITH ONE IT STILL HELPS ME!

0. A charter bus service from Chicago to New York charges $500 plus $20 for each person beyond the first 30. Then the total charge c(x) for a group consisting of x people is given by the following function: c(x) = ________ if x "is greater then" 30

1. The kinetic energy k of a moving particle acted on by various forces on quadratically on the velocity x of the particle. The particles energy is 155 ergs when its velocity is 5 m/sec, 805 ergs at 10 m/sec and 1955 ergs at 25 m/sec. write the quadratic function which fits these data
k(x)=______________?
A) 155x^2+805x+1955
B) 10x^2+20x-195
C) 50x^2-1020x+4005

clueless here!

2. Which of these intervals contains all the negative numbers greater then -10?
A) (-10,3)
B) (-10, "sideways 8")
C) (-10,1)
D) None of the above

I should probably know this, huh? I'm probably over thinking it. Are those coordinates on a graph and after plotted I would see if they're under -10?

D) 3x-25
E) 3x+5
F) x-25
G) 3x-25
H) x-5
again, LOST!

D) (-36, 5)

6. Express [-9, -3] as a set using absolute value and an inequality
A) {x[1x+6] "less then or equal to" 3}
B) {x[1x-6] "less then or equal to" 3}
C) {x[1x-3] "less then or equal to" 6}
D) None of the above

7. All one-to-one functions of the set of real numbers onto itself have an inverse
A) False
B) True

8.The electrical resistance of a wire varies directly with its length and inversely with the square of its radius. If a wire with a radius of .9 millimeter and length of 20 meters has a resistance of 18 ohms what will be the resistance of a wire with a radius of .4mm and length of 10 meters: ______Ohms?

9. 93/2 * 81/3 = _________?

10. Let f be defined by: f(x) square root of x^2+3
Does f define a function from the real numbers to the real numbers
A) Yes
B) No

11. Solve this equation: 3a-(a-7)=15
a=_____?

12. Mark every expression which appears as a factor in the complete factorization of: 4x^2-25
A) 2x+1
B) 4x+5
C) 2x-25
D) x-5
E) 2x-5
F) x-25
G) 4x+1
H) 2x+5

In this problem you have the difference of perfect squares. Hence the following, hope this helps you get started with the other problems as well.

9x^2-25

(3x+5)(3x-5)

The only section available by whats given is E.

9. 93/2 * 81/3 = _________?

93/2 * 81/3

1st figure out how many times 3 goes into 93. this helps to reduce the problem first.

93/3 = 31

hence

31/2 * 81/1 = 2511/2

Finished

11. Solve this equation: 3a-(a-7)=15
a=_____?

with this one first thing you want to do is distribute the negative through like so

3a - (a - 7) = 15

3a - a + 7 = 15

now add like terms

2a + 7 = 15

subtract 7 from both sides

2a = 8

finally divide 2 on both sides

a = 4

4. If lines and L and L'2 are perpendicular, and L, and has slope 3, what is the slope of L'2?

perpendicular means that two lines have the negative reciprocals of each other so,

with L having a slope of 3 that means that the slope of L2 is -1/3.
:D

0. A charter bus service from Chicago to New York charges $500 plus $20 for each person beyond the first 30. Then the total charge c(x) for a group consisting of x people is given by the following function: c(x) = ________ if x "is greater then" 30

you are given c(x)= some function.

charges are $500 + $20x (x is the number of people past 30, just like the problem says)

so the function would be

c(x) = 500 + 20X

2. Which of these intervals contains all the negative numbers greater then -10?
A) (-10,3)
B) (-10, "sideways 8")
C) (-10,1)
D) None of the above

Here think of numbers greater than -10. Such -9, -8, -7, etc. this goes to positive infinity. so the only decision given for this problem is B, A, C.

these selections give you all the negative numbers greater than -10.

12. Mark every expression which appears as a factor in the complete factorization of: 4x^2-25
A) 2x+1
B) 4x+5
C) 2x-25
D) x-5
E) 2x-5
F) x-25
G) 4x+1
H) 2x+5

this one is just like number 9.

4x^2 - 25

(2x - 5)(2x + 5)

Choices are E, H

14. f(x) = 2x+7, the inverse of f(x) if g(x)=
A) 2(x=7)
B) x-2/7
C) 7(x+2)
D) x-7/2

in order to find the inverse of f(x) is to switch x and y like so

x = 2y + 7 , now solve for y and that will be g(x).

subtract 7 from both sides

x - 7 = 2y

now divide 2 to both sides and get

y = (x-7)/2 , choice D assuming you meant x - 7 is divided by 2.
