An express train takes 5 1/2 hours to travel between two cities. If the express train takes only 3/5 of the time an ordinary train takes, how long will it take for the ordinary train to travel between the two towns?

I need to show all workings out.
I cant seem to break down the problem to formulate an equation and solve.

Please help.

Can I ask why 'S'? Why did you use that letter?

Do you understand - what does "S" stand for, in the equation that Denis provided?

S = The time it will take for the ordinary train to travel between the two towns

Thank you so so so so so much!!!!

Thank you so much for your help, you really did help me understand and I managed to work out the problem myself. It was very appreciated!!!!!!

As Subhotosh told you:
S = The time it will take for the ordinary train to travel between the two towns

So I could have shown as:
3/5 * (The time it will take for the ordinary train to travel between the two towns ) = 5.5

EASIER to use a letter; I picked S; could be any letter; capish?
