John is now 3 times as old as his brother Sam. In 5 years John will be twice as old as sam will be then. Find their present ages.

this is what I've done so far.....

Let:age now
x=sams present age
3x=John's present age

then:future age
2x=John's age in 5 years.

3S=J

5 years from now:

J+5=2(s+5)

You have two equations to solve:

3S=J
J+5=2(S+5)
