Advanced Engineering Math Wave Formula Problem need help on how to get started

Here is the problem off of a practice Exam we have:

I am not sure how to get started on this one, any tips would be appreciated

Did you substtitute the variables as instructed? What did you get?

Sorry it took awhile to respond been trying the rest of the problem to see if they would help for this one.

I substitute the variables in, and get that v(E, N) = u(x,t) when you substitute in E= x - ct and N = x + ct.

I think I am mostly confused by what it is asking where it says find the PDE satisfied by v with E= x - ct and N = x + ct by differentiating and using the wave equation. I am not sure what exactly I am suppose to differentiate there.

because E differentiates with respect to X is just E^(1) = 1 and E^(2) = 0, and same with N. With respect to T it's E^(1) = -c and E^(2) = 0. N is just c and 0. That is where I am lost in the problem.
