How does \(\displaystyle \dfrac{\sqrt{2}}{2}+ \dfrac{\sqrt{2}}{2} = 2\)?

Any starting hints? :confused:

Your equation is not true. The left hand side is equal to sqrt2, about 1.414. Try it using a calculator.

As wjm11 told you, it doesn't! What is true is that \(\displaystyle \frac{a}{2}+ \frac{a}{2}= \frac{2a}{2}= a\) for any number, a. \(\displaystyle \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}+ \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}= \sqrt{2}\).
