An elevator is moving down with an acceleration of 1.40m/s^2. A 14.5-kg block hangs from a spring balance fixed to the roof of the elevator. What is the apparent weight of the block?
my solution:
10 - 1.4 = 8.6
14.5 x 8.6 =124.7 kg
am i correct

my friend got 121.8 kgN for the answer

10 - 1.4 = 8.6 <<< How is this 10 coming in?
14.5 x 8.6 =124.7 kg <<< Unit of weight in SI is Newton (N) - not kg

Your friend has correct answer - except for the unit.
