Absolute + Local Extrema

How do I set up/do these questions?

1. f(x) = split function (left braces) 2x if 0 <= x < 1; 2 - x if 1 <= x <= 2?
2. Find critical #s for g(t) = 5t^(2/3) + t^(5/3)

I'm having trouble w/ extremas, and figuring out them.
When is an absolute extrema not a local extrema, and vice versa? Does open and closed intervals (< or <=) make a difference? I'm confused :(
 
Handle the split ones just like the continuous and continuously differentiable ones, just remember to check all the end points, since the calculus doesn't know about those.
