Any ideas on how to solve such a problem?!?
According to data from the NFL, the average yearly salary (in thousands) for a player can be approximated by the equation y = 134.47 x + 827.93 where x = 0 corresponds to the year 2000. In what year will the average salary by $2.8 million.

tmsmith201,

1) Your goal is to give the year.

2) You're solving for the number of years to be added to the year 2000 to get the desired year (answer).

3) $2.8 million is to be set equal to 134.47x + 827.93, \(\displaystyle *but*\) it must be expressed
(converted) into thousands of dollars (indicated in the problem).
What is $8.2 million in thousands of dollars?

4) After you determine that, then plug that into y and solve for the x-value.
