Hi Guys,

Maybe I'm thinking too hard about this and missing the obvious but maybe a new set of eyes will help with the following.

I am currently contracted 16 hrs Monday and Tuesday. If I work Wednesdays I get paid the normal hourly rate and get extra annual leave which they've worked out at 0.75 hrs for every 8 hours worked. I sometimes finish at 3, in which case I'll get 6 hours extra pay.

The annual leave amount is 172 hours for a full timer.

This year, cos I worked most of the Wednesdays last year, the Boss has given me 3 fifths of the annual leave entitlement 106 hrs (3/5ths actually 103.2) but that means if I don't work the Wednesdays they will take annual leave off 8 hours. Am I worse off if they do it that way. I think I am. I've booked 3 weeks off which is 3 lots of 24 hrs which leaves me with 34 hours.

The more I think the more I get confused - and the same goes for the Boss, I don't think he actually knows the 'correct' answer ;) Is there an optimum way to get the most out of accruing the leave entitlement? If I take a day off should it be the 6 hrs accrued leave which is subtracted or is it right that 8 hrs is taken off the entitlement? Or to put it simple, is the whole entitlement calculation method flawed in the first place lol :)

I don't think it is fair. It is like charging you if you don't work overtime. If Wednesday becomes a 'regular contracted day' then you should be paid for every Wednesday except when you voluntarily take a vacation day on Wednesday.
