On a space shuttle mission, astronauts are allowed 1.5 pounds of personal items. The table shows the weights some possible items. If an astronaut decides to bring 2 rolls of pennies and a watch on the mission, what other item from the list could the astronaut bring? please explain.

2 rolls of pennies = 1.12
5 golf balls = 0.506
watch = 0.09
college sweatshirt = 0/75
whistle = 0.125
camera = 0.625

2 rolls of pennies and a watch

How much do these two items weigh together?

What is the difference between their sum and 1.5?

It is this difference that tells us how much more weight is allowed beyond the pennies and watch.

it leaves 0.29

.506 is too much
.75 is too much
.125 is too much
.625 is too much so i do not understand what to do next

Round 0.125 to two decimal places, and see what happens

Alternatively, try thinking of 0.29 as 0.290

so i am looking at
1.12 + 0.09 = 1.21 - 1.50 = .29 = .290
0.125 + 0.125 (2 whistles) = .250

1.21 - 1.50 = 0.29 should be 1.50 - 1.21 = 0.29, so it's better to type each equation on its own line to avoid confusion.

Good. Yet, there is only one whistle on the list.

The answer to the question "what other item from the list" is "the whistle".

oh thanx im doing that homework now thats why i asked!!

2 rolls of pennies= 1.12 pounds
1 watch = 0.19

So 1.12 + 0.19 = 1.31.

Amount allowed = 1.50.

Amount left = 1.50 - 1.31 = 0.29.
.
