I have the equation 4.25x^4 - 5 = 12 and I am trying to solve for x. Can anyone assist me? I'm really at a loss for how to solve this one.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 4th root calculation

Hint:
Divide by .25: 17x^4 - 68 = 0
[sqrt(17)x^2 + sqrt(68)][sqrt(17)x^2 - sqrt(68)] = 0

Re: 4th root calculation

Just eyeballing it, looks like x^4=16. You can take it from there?

Isolate 'x

4.25 x^4 = 17

x^4 = 17/4.25 = 4

x = sqrt(2) = 1.414

and I am trying to solve for x. Can anyone assist me? I'm really at a loss for how to solve this one.
