4n+7=1 and y/3 - 7=-3: can't remember the formula

I know these are easy but I cannot for anything remember the formula.. Help!

What "formula" are you supposed to be using? (We'll be glad to try to find a lesson on it, but I'm not clear what it is that you're supposed to be doing, in terms of a "formula"...?)
