Need some help solving this one. I think I am right until the last step.......4(-2 + 3x) = 12x......-8 + 12x = 12x.....-8 = 12x - 12x.....-8 = 0.....is this correct? Thanks in advance.

Alright =)

The goal of this problem is to find a value of x that makes the equation true. You can rearrange the numbers and variables in the equation to make it easier to see which values of x do this.

You rearranged the numbers perfectly, and you ended up with the statement -8 = 0.

So now we go back to the original question. Which values of x make this statement true? Which values of x make -8 = 0?

(HINT: Don't overthink this. -8 is never equal to 0.)

Well, what about poor +8 ?
-8 + 12x = 12x
12x - 12x = 8
0 = 8

PLEASE DO NOT do this again:
4(-2 + 3x) = 12x......-8 + 12x = 12x.....-8 = 12x - 12x.....-8 = 0

Sow steps like this:
4(-2 + 3x) = 12x
-8 + 12x = 12
-8 = 12x - 12x
-8 = 0

I'm serious: will keep your teacher in better humor!

Denis, I'm sure you already realize this, but adding eight to both sides does nothing to change the problem. I'm just curious about why you mentioned it.

Also, OP, listen to his advice about how to write your steps. If you don't write them neatly with one below the other, people will get confused. If you're worried about saving paper, you can make multiple columns.

Did you get the answer, OP?
