Get out your calculator, plug in 2003 in place of x and see if the following is true.

350(2003)-200(2003)-8000-.3(350(2003)-200(2003)-8000-20,000)=198720

I get a "no".

I get an answer in the neighborhood of x=1890. So as not to take away the joy of your solving the problem, I won't be specific, but my exact answer (to 3 decimal places) checks

350X - 200X - 8000 - 0.3(350X - 200X - 8000 - 20,000) = 198720

It might help to note that 350x - 200x = 150x and 8 000 + 20 000 = 28 000. Then:

. . . . .150x - 8 000 - 0.3(150x - 28 000) = 198 720

. . . . .150x - 8 000 - 45x + 8 400 = 198 720

...and so forth.
