2X - 3Y = 6, Y - 6 = 14; find X and Y (don't know how)

Re: HELPPP PLEASE!!!

In the second equation, solve for Y. Now that you know the value of Y, replace Y in the firat equation with that value of Y. Then solve for X in the first equation. If you need more help, show us the steps you have taken so far so that we can determine where you are stuck.

I need serious help with this problem:
2X -3Y=6
Y-6=14
X =
Y=
If you can't tell that Y = 20, then you need CLASSROOM help.

Re: HELPPP PLEASE!!!

what you need to do is solve for y. in this case, y equals 20. then, you plug y back in the first equation and then solve for x. it should look something like this:

Y-6=14
Y=20

Substitute into 2X-3Y=6:
2X-3(20)=6
2X-60=6
2X=66
x=33

X=33
Y=20

If you need to check this, just plug these 2 answers back into one of the original equations. you should come up with a true statement (ex.: 14=14)
Hope this helps!
