Bella and her family are feeling hungry and they have ordered 3 pizzas and a bottle of lemonade.

a pizza costs £2.90 more than a bottle of lemonade.

the total cost of the order was £32.98

1. how much does each pizza cost?

2. How much was the lemonade?

Ordered 3 pizzas and a bottle of lemonade
pizza costs 2.90 more than a lemonade

So the order is like 4 lemonades + 3 times 2.90
4 lemonades + 8.70 = 32.98
Hopefully you can now work out the cost of a lemonade
and then reading the question again, work out the price of a pizza.

(Expensive lemonade).

Thank you for your help so £8.97 per pizza and £6.07 for the 1 bottle of lemonade.
why do we make it equivalent to 4 pizzas to make it work?

That's it. Grand. As I said, very expensive lemonade!

So the order is like 4 lemonades + 3 times 2.90
4 lemonades + 8.70 = 32.98
I think a little different than Lex. Add $2.90 to the price, then the total cost will be equivalent to buying four pizzas.

These are just two slightly different ways of thinking about the problem. Neither is necessary. Whichever you understand better is grand.
